Abstract

Migration is one of the factors that effects on impact life satisfaction. Migration, especially for students, can offer positive outcomes such as new opportunities for personal, professional, and educational growth; however, challenges may expose migrating students to psychological difficulties, including depression and anxiety. Based on this the present research was done with the aim to explain life satisfaction and suicidal ideation based on depression and anxiety symptoms, considering the mediating role of religious coping skills, among Afghan students in Isfahan in 2023–2024. In this descriptive–correlational study, 220 Afghan students were selected via convenience sampling and completed Diener and Pavot's Satisfaction with Life Scale, Beck's Suicide Ideation Scale, Lovibond's Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, and Pargament's Religious Coping Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27 and SmartPLS 4. Results indicated that depression directly and indirectly predicted life satisfaction and suicidal ideation. In this context, the impact of positive religious coping strategies on life satisfaction was confirmed, though no such effect was found regarding suicidal ideation. Furthermore, anxiety symptoms—whether acting directly or through the mediating role of religious coping strategies—do not serve as significant predictors of life satisfaction or suicidal ideation.
